Biosphere-Atmosphere Exchange & Remote Sensing

Terrestrial vegetation interacts heavily with the atmosphere to regulate climate, carbon uptake, and water cycles. This theme integrates process-based ecosystem modeling with multi-scale remote sensing—spanning leaf-level observations to global satellite measurements—to quantify photosynthesis, environmental stress, and ecosystem CO2 drawdown. Researchers seek to uncover key biological mechanisms and land-atmosphere feedbacks to predict ecosystem stability and carbon sink capacity under future climate scenarios.
